4/8 Solar Eclipse Safety

Get ready for an extraordinary event - a solar eclipse is coming!  This rare astronomical event is a great opportunity for our students to explore science, space, and the wonders of the natural world.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, the moon will perfectly align between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow upon our planet. The next total solar eclipse visible from the United States won't happen until 2044.

The solar eclipse is an exhilarating phenomenon in which the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, partially or completely obscuring the Sun’s light.

It is crucial to remember not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse without protective eyewear to avoid permanent eye damage.

At Encino Charter, safety is always our number one priority.  Therefore, our school will be operating on a (modified) Shelter-In-Place/Inclement Weather Schedule on Monday, April 8th. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., our students will stay in class during the eclipse. Our teachers have plans to discuss the eclipse and our students will have the opportunity to view the event online. For those students who must travel through exposed hallways to access restrooms, staff members will escort and supervise them. We will also deliver snacks/lunches directly to classrooms.

Please remind your student to avoid looking directly at the sun, as it could cause permanent eye damage. Thank you for your continued support.
