Welcome Letter from the Principal
Dear Encino Charter Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 School Year! We’re excited to begin a new school year filled with meaningful learning, joyful connections, and opportunities to grow. Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we’re so happy to have you with us.
At Encino Charter, our mascot—the Explorer—reminds us to stay curious, courageous, and open to new ideas. This year’s universal theme is Community—a powerful reminder that, like any great expedition, our success depends on teamwork, respect, and supporting one another.
As a School for Advanced Studies (SAS), we offer a rigorous academic program that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. We’re committed to challenging all students while providing the support they need to thrive—wherever they are on their learning journey.
At the heart of it all are our exceptional teachers and staff, who create classrooms and a school environment where students feel seen, supported, and inspired to take intellectual risks and grow.
Thanks to our amazing E-TEAM and parent community, this year our students will enjoy a wide range of new and returning enrichment opportunities, including:
- Enhanced classroom technology
- The Enriched LA Garden & Ranger Program
- A combined STEM and Science Lab with a Study Smart Specialist
- A vibrant Visual Arts program led by Viridian Art
- Physical Education with Coach D'Mitri
- A welcoming, inclusive environment where every Explorer belongs - strengthened by the many fun, community-building events hosted by our E-TEAM
We value the role of families in our school community. We invite you to be part of the adventure—volunteer, attend events, and stay connected. To get started, visit https://volunteerapp.lausd.net or stop by the main office. We’d love to have your help!
Strong communication is the foundation of a thriving school community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, ideas, or concerns—we’re here to partner with you and support your child every step of the way. You can contact me directly at adb1194@lausd.net or by phone at (818) 784-1762.
As we begin this exciting school year, we encourage every student to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind. We can’t wait to see all that our Encino Explorers will accomplish. As we always say, let’s make it a great year—the choice is ours! And remember, every day is a great day to be an Encino Explorer!

With gratitude and enthusiasm,
Dr. Amy Besser
