English Language Development

At Encino Charter, we support English Language Learners (ELLs), also known as Emergent Bilinguals (EBs), in developing strong skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our instruction follows California’s English Language Development (ELD) Standards and is designed to help students gain the academic English they need to succeed.

We use an integrated ELD approach, meaning language development is embedded across all subjects. This allows students to build English skills in meaningful, real-world contexts while engaging in grade-level content.

We hold high expectations for all students, including EBs, and provide rigorous, standards-based instruction. At the same time, we celebrate and honor the diverse languages and cultures our students bring to the classroom. We believe that valuing a student’s first language and cultural identity builds confidence, engagement, and academic success.
