School for Advanced Studies (SAS)

Encino Charter Elementary School is a School for Advanced Studies (SAS).  We have received this designation for our exemplary Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. Encino Charter is acknowledged for its exemplary, innovative, equitable and effective GATE practices. By providing high-quality differentiated instruction with an emphasis on depth and complexity, Encino Charter offers high-level academic opportunities that meet the unique educational needs of K-12 gifted learners. The SAS model supports the District's goal to ensure equitable GATE participation for all students.

Encino Charter must undergo a rigorous application process every five years to maintain the SAS designation. Student selection, enrollment and placement in the SAS gifted/talented program at Encino Charter must be conducted in accordance with State and District legal requirements. Each SAS school site has flexibility in the clustering model, thematic emphasis, differentiated instructional strategies and enrichment opportunities provided to students.
